Swami Nithyananda-

In March 2010, Sun News Broadcasted a video that allegedly showed Nithyananda having sexual acts with allegedly Tamil actress Ranjitha. But his followers claimed it to be a fake video to defame him. Nithyananda himself said that he was in a state of Samadhi when the video was captured and has thus been misinterpreted. Several cases were registered against him by the local police. He was also arrested for avoiding summons for many days.Later the Court dismissed FIR filed against him in 2013. The video was taped by his former female follower Arathi Rao who alleged him for raping her and life threat if disclosed in public.

Asaram Bapu-

In August 2013, Bapu was alleged for sexual assaulting a 16 years old girl in order to remove the evil spirit from her. Several cases were filed against him and eventually after denying to appear for summons, he was arrested amidst resistance from his followers. In the past, Asaram got into controversy for his comment on Delhi gang rape 2012, where he said that the victim could have been spared by the rapists if she had called them her brother.

Rajneesh(Osho)–

Osho had always been amidst controversies. He was called the “sex guru” in India and “Rolls-Royce guru” in US. His views on relationship, marriage, sex, family had always sparked criticism and raised many eyebrows. But 1985, he was arrest on 35 different charges. He was found guilty of the charges and was handed a ten years suspended sentence and $400,000 fine.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba-

Known for his instant manifestations of holy ash, gold ornaments and other material objects, skeptics had always accused him of sleight of hands and merely trickery. In 2001, Sai Baba was accused of abusement by a Sweden therapist following which Sweden’s Sai Organisation and school were shut down.

Chandrasawmi–

known to be the most controversial Indian tantric, he was under scanner several times for tax scam and monetary irregularities and paid fine a number of times. He was also arrested for defrauding a businessman for one tenth of a million dollar. But above all, he has been allegedly accused to have assoiciation in Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination.

Baba Ramdev-

Ramdev has been in controversies for quite some time now. Starting from his comments on political issues to issues like sex education and homosexuality has always led him to considerable trouble and criticism. He and his group of companies were allegedly accused of financial irregularities, tax scams and illegal land grab.

Acharya Balkrishna-

Baba Ramdev’s shadow-companion Balkrishna was arrested for faking documents and certificates to obtain Indian passport. Balkrishna has nearly 34 companies under his name in different states of India.

Nirmal Baba-

Nirmal Baba is known for his simple solutions to distress people but his flagship TV show Nirmal Darbar was accused of showing fraud claims with fake people to get exorbitant money from distress people by gaining cheap popularity. He was issued a bailable warrant for misleading and cheating people under the name of religion.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar-

Sri Sri said in one function that Indian government schools are training grounds for Naxalites, a group which is considered as terrorists, in Jaipur in 2012. It sparked controversy instantly and went viral. He faced severe criticism from government personnel his ‘illogical’ comments. Later He clarified that he did not meant to say all Indian government schools,he aimed to certain schools only, thereby putting an end to the controversy.

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev-

Sadhguru was allegedly accused of murdering his wife by his father-in-law in 1997. But Sadhguru explained her natural death as attaining mahasamadhi. He added that she predicted her death beforehand and among several followers she left her mortal body which snubbed the controversy that sparked for a while.

Mata Amritanandamay(Amma)–

Kerela’s writer Sreeni Pattathanam accused Amma of deceiving followers with her tricks and raised questions about the mysterious murders taking place around her ashram. All these accusations were dismissed on lack of reasons’ ground.
