Angkor Wat is situated in Cambodia, which is also known as Kampuchea and is in the southern portion of Indochina peninsula, bordered by Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

Angkor Wat was built in the early 12th century by the Khmer Empire. Initially it was a Hindi temple and dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Later, in the same 12th century, the temple was transformed into a Buddhist worship place.
