Intoxicated by the intake of large quantity of wine, Kumbhakarn thundered loudly and proceeded to fight Sri Rama.
When Vibhishan saw him coming he approached him and greeted. Vibhishan told Kumbhakarn how he had tried to convince Ravan to return Sita back to Sri Rama, "...But Ravan kicked me out. So I had no other choice but to seek Sri Rama's refuge."
Kumbhakaran agreed that his decision was appropriate btu expressed his helplessness in following his footsteps, as he had to fight on the side of his brother Ravan. Kumbhakaran then sent back Vibhishan.
Vibhishan came to Sri Rama and told him about the arrival of Kumbhakaran. The monkeys ran menacingly towards him. They started throwing large trees and mountains on him but it had no effect on Kumbhakaran.
Hanumana punched Kumbhakarn so hard that he felt down unconscious. When he came around, he got up and tried to attack Hanumana, but Hanumana again punched him which fainted for the second time.

He gave such severe blows to Sugreev, Hanumana and Angad that they fell unconscious. This terrified the army of the monkeys who ran away in panic. Kumbhakaran carried away unconscious Sugreev with him.
When Hanumana came around he started searching for Sugreev. When Sugreev came around he found himself being carried away by Kumbhakarn. He shammed death and then slipped down from the armpit of Kumbhakarn and bit hard. Kumbhakarn again flung Sugreev on the ground. This time, Sugreev ran away in terror instead of fighting the giant.
When Sri Rama heard about the valiant fight of Kumbhakarn, which forced the monkeys to run away, he decided to confront him, instructing Sugreev Hanumana and Laxmanaa to lead the army.
KILLING OF KUMBHAKARN
Sri Rama made a reverbrating loud sound by the string of his bow. The demons got scarred by that sound. He shot a volley of one-lakh arrows at the demons in one go. The arrows caused tremendous havoc and destruction to the enemy's army and then returned back into the quiver of Sri Rama. Sri Rama then severed Kumbhakarn's head with his arrow. The impact of the blow was so severe that the head flung away and fell in front of Ravan. Recognizing Kumbhakarn's head, Ravan became mournful. Sri Rama then cut Kumbhakarn's torso in two parts. The body of Kumbhakarn fell on the ground. He had in fact received salvation killed by the hands of Sri Rama.
The great numbers of the demons had been wiped out that day. Ravan was wailing uncontrollably holding the head of Kumbhakarn in his hands. Meghnaad came forward and consoled him. He assured Ravan that the next day's battle would bring death and destruction in Rama's army.

The next morning when the battle commenced the monkeys surrounded Ravan's army with grreater enthusiasm. In Ravan's camp, Meghnaad boarded his illusionary chariot and flew up in the sky thundering loudly like formidable clouds. His thunder petrified the monkeys. Meghnaad then started attacking them with swords, tridents, dagger and all other kinds of weapons. He even tied Rama and Laxmanaa in Nagapash, the noose of snakes. Jambawant challenged him for a dual. Meghnaad attacked him with a trident. Jambawant held the trident in mid air and attacked Meghnaad with the same trident, which toppled Meghnaad from his chariot. Jambawant then held his legs and smashed him onto the ground, but he did not die because of the boon. Jambawant then flung him at the doors of Lanka.
Narad requested Garuda to go and help Sri Rama in getting free from the Nagpash. Garuda came and devoured all the snakes. The monkeys became very happy and they relaucnhed their attack on the demons. The demons ran away and climbed on top of the fort.
When Meghnaad came around he saw Ravan in front of him. Meghnaad was ashamed that he could not annihilate his father's enemies.
He went inside the cave of a mountain to perform Yagya and please a goddess Nikumbhala who would make him invincible. Vibhishan, in the meantime, had warned Sri Rama if the Yagya completed successfully, Meghnaad would not only become invincible but also immortal.
Sri Rama instructed Angad and the other monkeys to go and destroy the Yagya. He also instructed Laxmanaa to kill Meghnaad.

BATTLE BETWEEN SRI RAMA AND RAVAN
When Ravan learnt about the death of his son, he fainted. Mandodari too was wailing uncontrollably. After gathering his composure Ravan then consoled Mandodari - "The whole world is impermanent; one who has taken birth has to die."
The next morning Sri Rama's army surrounded Ravan's fort. Ravan summoned his commanders and thundered-
"Who ever fears for his life may remain indoors. I will fight with Rama to avenge the death of my son."
Ravan boarded on his chariot and proceeded towards the battlefield. His army followed him.
Vibhishan wondered how Sri Rama, who was without a chariot, would fight Ravan. He expressed his feelings to Sri Rama. Sri Rama said-
"I have a chariot, valiance and patience are its wheel, truth and character are its flags, strength, discrimination, control of the senses and benevolence are its horses; and forgiveness, compassion and equanimity are the reigns, devotion is its charioteer; asceticism is my shield; satisfaction is my sword; charity is my axe, intelligence is my ferocious power and knowledge is my bow. With these kinds of armoury I can defeat even the death - what to say about Ravan."
Vibhishan was satisfied by Sri Rama's reply.
Ravan was creating havoc among the monkeys and bears with his valiance and bravery. Laxmana then cleverly killed the charioteer of Ravan and injured him. Ravan fell down unconscious. Another charioteer carried him to the safety. When Ravan came around he realized that he had underestimated the strength of enemy. He then started a Yagya.

Ravan then got up angrily and started smashing the monkeys on the groound holding their legs. In the mean time, the monkeys destroyed the oblation site. Ravan furiously proceeded towards Sri Rama's army. Omens did not auger well as he walked - the vultures were flying all over him in the sky. But unaware of all these things Ravan was going to fight Sri Rama.
The deities now requested Sri Rama to kill Ravan as soon as possible. Seeing the eagerness of Deities Sri Rama smiled. He prepared himself for the final battle with Ravan. He arranged his arrows in order - he adjusted his locks of hair and adorned them with some flowers. He took his bow Sarang in his hands.
The battle commenced between Sri Rama and Ravan. Sri Rama severed Ravan's head for several times with his arrows, but each time, a new head replaced the severed head.
RAVAN'S KILLING
Vibhishan then revealed to Sri Rama that Ravan's immortality lay in the Amritakunda, situated in his navel. Sri Rama then released his Karal arrow aiming towards Ravan's navel. At that time numerous inauspicious signs were visible in Lanka- The donkeys, jackals and dogs started wailing; many comets appeared in the sky and a solar eclipse occurred without any reason.
All these omens terrified Mandodari. She felt for sure that the fateful day had approached, which she always feared.
Sri Rama then shot a volley of thirty-one arrows towards Ravan. One arrow hit him in the navel and dried up the amrit kund, ten arrows simultaneously severed the ten heads of Ravan and twenty arrows severed his twenty arms.
Ravan's torso fell on the ground with a great thud causing intense tremors in the earth. Numerous monkeys and bears were trapped under his torso. The whole atmosphere became smoky and the ocean, river and mountains all became invisible.
When Vibhishan saw him coming he approached him and greeted. Vibhishan told Kumbhakarn how he had tried to convince Ravan to return Sita back to Sri Rama, "...But Ravan kicked me out. So I had no other choice but to seek Sri Rama's refuge."
