The first thing that happened after Mahabharata was that the Pandavas were crowned as rulers of Hastinapur. Gandhari was at grief losing all her sons and she cursed Lord Krishna as well as his Yadav clan to get painful death.

The Pandavas ruled for about 36 years and during the end years of the ruling the curse on Krishna started taking shape. Several events were witnessed in Dwarka and so Krishna led exodus of Yadav clan to Prabhasa. There too nothing was at peace. A murderous rebellion emerged and Yadavs ended up killing each other.

Yes, true. Amid such rebellion phase, a hunter mistakenly shoots Krishna with an arrow. This way Krishna was killed. After his demise, Vyasa told Arjuna that the purpose of Pandavas is now over.

During the same time the Dwapara Yuga ended and Kali Yuga started. In the Kali Yuga it was said there would be chaos and adharma everywhere.

Yudhistir too felt the Kali Yuga is about to begin as he saw adharma in his kingdom. He and his brothers decided to quit being the ruler of the kingdom and go to heaven. The Pandavas crowned Parikshit and went to the Himalayas along with Draupadi. They were joined by a stray dog, who was, in fact, Lord Yama in disguise.

And you know only Yudhistir and the dog could reach heaven. Others died on the way. It is said only Yudhistir didn't take pride in anything and so he was able to reach heaven.

True. Lord Yama revealed his identity thereafter to Yudhistir and took him on a tour through the hell where Yudhistir saw his brothers and Draupadi. However, Lord Indra promised him that his brother and Draupadi too will find a place in heaven. Yudhistir was taken to heaven.
