Radha-Krishna are not two different names! Here in India we worship them as Radha-Krishna representing their divine oneness. Historically, the two never got married, and yet praises for their unquestioned devotion are perhaps going to be sung for an eternity. The best way of perceiving their love, has often been summed up in the lines:
“Krishna gladdens the world, but Radha gladdens Krishna.”
They are an example of the famous astringency of god and human love. Don’t we all love to listen to Radha Krishna love stories? If you do, here’s a brief account of how their life was molded:
Krishna lived in Vrindavan and Radha in Repalli, not too far from Krishna’s palace. Krishna was very amiable among all, no wonder he was always surrounded by Gopas and Gopis. But, due to their devotion for Lord Krishna, the Gopis and Gopas would exempt themselves when Krishna would meet Radha.
The Two Were Childhood Sweethearts
Radha was elder to Krishna. They met in their childhood and become lovers. Even now, newer generations never fail to get inspired by their love.
Yes, they never got married, but their dedication toward each other cannot be defined social rituals, can it?
They are believed to have had a spiritual marriage. Some theories also suggest that they were married in their childhood by Lord Brahma himself.
What Lead to Their Separation?
The divine couple had to go through a testing phase of separation when Lord Krishna had to kill Kansa and defeat his army. Radha gave her concordance and so Krishna left to fulfill his destiny.
After Separation:
It took years for Lord Krishna to defeat Kansa and the demons of his kingdom, after which he established the city of Dwarka. During these years, Radha’s life had come to a standstill in waiting for Krishna. Alarmed, her parents decided to get her married. As a sincere daughter, she was obliged to obey them, and agreed for the marriage.
Reuniting With Krishna in Dwarka
After years, when old age had taken a toll over Radha’s health, she decided to visit Dwarka to meet Krishna. She fulfilled her duties at Vrindavan and began her journey toward Dwarka. On meeting Krishna, the spiritual connection between them was rekindled. With mutual understanding, the two decided that Radha would work as a maid in Krishna’s palace and serve him till the end of her days.
No one knew what was decided between Radha and Krishna.
When She Decided To Leave:
Despite the fact that Radha would see Krishna everyday, during her time at the palace, it dawned upon her that their spiritual connection is ever more stronger, much stronger than physical presence would bring. Soon she decided to leave. She left without intimating anyone.
Their Last Meeting:
She was weak in health when Radha left Krishna’s Dwarka palace. She fell unconscious on her way, not knowing where she was going. Somehow, Krishna appeared in time and Radha asked him to play the flute and sing to her. The song was specially for Radha and never sung again.
Radha breathed her last while listening to the song. Krishna not able to bear the sight, broke the flute into two, and trod back to his palace.
