Vegetarian is an all-encompassing term for people who don't eat animal flesh. Vegetarian diets do not include meat, poultry or fish. Within this broad category, there are several types of diets. Lacto-ovo vegetarian diets are those which include dairy foods and eggs. Vegans eat diets that are free of all animal products, so they don't eat meat, poultry, fish, dairy foods, or eggs and they usually don't eat prepared foods that contain any of these products as ingredients. So if you see a food labeled as "vegan," it means that it is not only vegetarian, but it also doesn't contain any dairy or egg products.
