There is no ancient text that documents about mother and father of Lord Jagannath. Lord Jagannath is the wooden god and this is the reason it is also called as Daruedebata in Odia language. Daru means wooden murti or idol made from wood. Daru originally means floating wooden log in ocean.
In Odia language Lord Jagannath is also called as Darubrahman, which means the Sacred Wood-Riddle.
