Why rama asked Sita for Agnipariksha?

In the Hindu Epic Mahabharat, Lord Rama asked Sita for Agnipariksha in order to clear the doubts of people. Actually, after returning from Lanka, everyone in society has doubts about the purity of Sita. So nobody can ever talk bad about Sita in the future, Lord Rama for Agnipariksha.
