The 108 mala is used for devotional meditation. It consists of 108 beats. 108 is considered as a sacred number in yogic tradition as well as in Hinduism and Buddhism. The mala is used in prayers and mantra chanting.

Do also note that the Meru bead in the 108 mala is not counted in it. It is the larger bead.
