Yes, Tulsi leaves contain a good amount of mercury and iron. This is the reason it is suggested not to chew the Tulsi leaves. Chewing the leaves releases the mercury and it will damage the teeth.
Apart from mercury, the Tulsi leaves are also a bit acidic and can cause wear of tooth enamel as the mouth is alkaline. So, it is better not to consume the Tulsi leaves in very large quantities.
