Sanjiv Mehta is the current owner of East India Company, which was dissolved in 1874. He relaunched it to run a food store after more than a century.

All the powers of East India Company were transferred to the British Crown by the Government of India Act 1858 following Indian Rebellion of 1857. The company then employed a third of British workforce.

The Mumbai-born entrepreneur bought it in 2005 and is currently selling chocolates, gourmet coffees, rare teas, jams, and other luxurious food gifts.
