Fasting during Menstruation in Hinduism

In Hinduism, women are not allowed to keep fast during their menstrual and they should stay away from any religious activity. Actually, women lose blood during menstrual and this makes them weaken so this could be another scientific reason.

Why they are not allowed, they should be allowed to enter the temple but they should not perform worship.
