The First 10 days of the month Jyeshth, known as Dashahara, are dedicated to honour the Holy River Maa Ganga. People believe that by bathing in Ganga sins are washed away. The principle centres for the worship of Maa Ganga are Gangotri, the source of the river: Haridwar where she comes down to the plains; Allahabad, where she joins maa Yamuna; Varanashi, the holy city & Sagara Iland in her estuary where she finally flows into the Bay of Bengal.

Ganga Mata has several streams and names, including: Ganga, Mandakini, Prabhawathi, Bhagirati, Janhvi, Sita, Nalini, Pavini and Soochakshu. Her greatness is mentioned in several Vedic scriptures including, Valmiki's Ramayan.

Vamanaji started measuring, in his first step he measured the entire Planet Earth, second step he measured the Universe & there was no place for his 3rd step however King Bali asked him to put it on his head.
When the Universe was been measured the TOE of Sri Vamana Bhagwan hits the core of this Universe & broke the kavach/coating from where few drops of water Leaked from the Sheer sagar (where Lord Vishnu sleep with mata laxmi on a snake bed) water was held by Sri Brahmaji in his Kamandal, Later Sagar maharaj, his father, his grandson Dilip, his son Bhagirathi, who was the 4th generation of King Sagar, did immense tapasya to bring down Ganga Mata from the heavens to earth to release his ancestors from their curse and ultimately grant them moksha. The Force of Mata Ganga from SAtyaloka (Brahmajis planet) was so powerfull that it would make a whole in the core of Planet Earth & go to Pataloka however on Mata Gangas Request Bhagirathji meditated on Bhagwan Shiva to held the force of Mata Ganga in his Locks/jatha. Bhagwan Shiv held maa Ganga in his flock for 1 year, later on Bhagirathijis tapsaya bhagwanji released maa Ganga on diffrent planets.
