If you are willing to keep Shiva Lingam in your house then you should keep it towards North or East direction. Daily worship of Shiva Lingam is needed in order to maintain its divinity. So if you think you can perform daily puja with rules then keep it and the Panapatta should see the North or East direction because Linga is always in a top direction.
