Mormon doctrine holds that the primary objective of Christ's life was to redeem humankind from sin and death. His suffering, death, and resurrection is known to Mormons as the Atonement. Mormons today remember Christ's Atonement at church each Sunday with bread and water representing His sacrifice.
The New Testament tells that Jesus appeared to his disciples in Jerusalem before ascending to heaven. Mormons believe that Book of Mormon people, some of the "other sheep" spoken of in John 10: 16, were also visited by Jesus in America after His resurrection.
