Technically known as conjunctivitis is an eye infection which anybody can suffer from. Pink eye can be categorized as viral infection of eye.

It should be noted that Pink eye is nothing more than inflammation of exterior eye part known as conjunctiva. Usually the entire eye turns red in this condition therefore commonly known as Pink eye. The infection doesn’t have any serious implications and neither does it create high irritation in the eye. However, the real threat posed by the condition is its contagious nature. Therefore one should take proper precautions and the person suffering from Pink Eye or Conjunctivitis should aloof himself from family and friends.

Usually the condition is observed for 4-5 days and the length of infection vary from individual to individual and also depends upon the level of infection. The problem doesn’t have any negative effect on the vision. However, one must take the treatment soon after so as to avoid any serious complications.

Pink Eye / Conjunctivitis Symptoms

Pain and sensitivity to light in the eyes are some of the symptoms showing the onset of conjunctivitis / pink eye. A person may also experience irritation and itchiness in the eyes. However, if the eye surface turns pink then it is a clear sign of pink eye / conjunctivitis. Beside these, person suffering from pink eye may also exhibit symptoms such as tears and discharge, soreness and stickiness in the eye region.

If a person is detected to be suffering from conjunctivitis / pink eye, then he should try for fast and effective cure. There are natural ways which are safer and free from side effects to cure pink eye / conjunctivitis. These Pink Eye Remedies might be more effective than medicine suggested by the medical practitioner.

Pink Eye Remedies

a. Use of cloth soaked in warm water :
Applying a clean towel soaked in warm water over the lids is one of the fasters and effective method to get relief from pain, redness and swelling due to the infection. Not only does it provide instant relief from pain but also helps in curing the conjunctivitis in the shortest possible time.

b. Washing Eyes : Splash your eyes with some clean purified water at least 4-5 times a day to cure the infection. This would clean the eyes from any impurities and also reduce the itch and irritation. Eye washers are also available at most medical shops for this purpose. However, one must take note of using separate washers for each of the eye and also ensure that the hands are free of any germs while cleaning the eye.

Honey has anti bacterial effect, so a drop or two may be added to the water for eye washing.

c. Chamomile tea : One may also put chamomile tea bags on the infected eye to cure pink eye. To use the tea bag, put the tea bag in hot water, allow it to cool down and then put it on the eyes. Remember to use separate bags for each eye. Putting the eye for 15 minutes will give relief from itch and irritation.

One may also use normal green and black tea bags in place of chamomile tea bags. These also have similar effect and help recover from conjunctivitis.

d. Honey and Milk : Honey is known for its anti bacterial properties. Make a mixture of honey and warm milk in equal ratio and stir the mixture well until honey gets dissolved in the milk. This mixture can now be used as eye drop, put 3-4 drops in the eyes at regular intervals, preferably around 3-4 times a day. The power of this remedy is such that it will show result in a single day.

e. Castor oil : Castor oil can also be used as eye drops in place of milk and honey for curing pink eye. Put a couple of drops of castor oil in both eyes one time a day. It will cure the ailment faster and also will provide a soothing effect on the eyes.

f. Lemon juice : Lemon juice is another natural eye drop which can be used to cure pink eye. One may experience on use of lemon as eye drop a little tingle in the eye region, but rest assured that this is the fastest pink eye remedy.

g. Grated Potato : Potato has anti microbial properties, so freshly grated potato can be used to cure pink eye. One should place the grated potato over the eyes for 15 minutes.

h. Warm milk compression : To cure conjunctivitis, warm milk may be used as compressor. However, the person suffering from pink eye should follow it until the infection is gotten rid of.

i. Marigold : Marigold is another natural remedy which can be used as a compressor to cure conjunctivitis / pink eye.

j. Wash with saline water : Saline water can also be used to cure pink eye and is highly recommended by many people. To prepare the solution, first boil water and add a little salt to it. Allow the solution to cool down to normal temperature. Then use this solution for washing eyes.

k. Keep hands away from eyes : This is the most important precaution one should take special precaution while touching the eyes with hands. Always avoid touching the eyes with hands as it may aggravate the situation. If it becomes really necessary to use hands, make sure to wash hands with anti septic hand wash.

Following the pink eye remedies and precautions mentioned above you can get rid of pink eye in no time even without the use of medicines.
