The Chinese astrological sequence has ancient roots. Chinese astrologist Shelly Wu explains that the tradition of the signs goes back to the time of Buddha. Tradition has it that Buddha invited all of the animals of his kingdom to a meeting and only twelve came.
The order in which the astrological signs occur are the order in which they arrived to Buddha's party. For thousands of years, the Chinese have believed these twelve signs to be the backbone of twelve distinct personality archetypes of people. The Chinese zodiac signs in order are:
Rat
Ox
Tiger
Rabbit
Dragon
Snake
Horse
Sheep
Monkey
Rooster
Dog
Boar
