Yes, very true. It is considered as a religion in modern time but traditionally it is not. It has no holy book that teaches how mankind should live and react to nature and situation. In Atheism no one guides each other about what principle to follow in life. It does not teaches the purpose of our existence. So technically it is not a religion.
