What is Whirling meditation

Some yoga teachers begin their class with a session of whirling. Whirling is a Sufi meditation practice which liberates the body from the everyday world and allows it to enter into a spiritual world while connecting with the Divine.

The practice is quite easy. First, find a place with plenty of room to move about. Whirling doesn't have to take place in one spot, but, can be done all around the room. Next, simply hold up the arms at shoulder length with the fingers stretched out, focus on the breath, and begin whirling. To keep from getting dizzy, pick one spot at eye level to keep the eyes focused on.
