Ramakrishna Paramahamsa was born into a poor family in rural Bengal. He became a temple priest in Dakshineshwar, Kolkata early in his life and soon started an intense spiritual practice, resulting in visions of his beloved deity, mother Kali. Ramakrishna was a glowing mystic who attained the highest spiritual realizations through the path of devotion but later learned and practiced other spiritual paths as well.
