Once Andhak saw the Goddess Parvati and fell in love with her. Sure of his invincibility he tried to take her by force. Parvati however created a hundred identical images of herself and Andhak was unable to discern who was the real Parvati. In this confusion Parvati escaped.
But Andhak was bent on marrying Parvati. It was then Prahlad returned from the Himalayas to tell Andhak the story of his birth. Hiranyaksha was childless and prayed to Shiva for a son. As Shiva was about to grant him the boon, Parvati arrived and in a playful mood she covered Shiva’s eyes. Hence Andhak was born blind. However Hiranyaksha always maintained that Andhak was the son of Shiva and Parvati and was adopted by him. Therefore, Prahlad explained to Andhak that Parvati was his mother and it was immoral to desire her.
