Konark is a Sanskrit word. Kona means angle or corner while Arka means the Hindu Sun god Surya. The Konark Temple in Puri is dedicated to the Sun God and it is also known as the Sun Temple. It was built in the 13th century by King Narsingh Dev I and now it is the only temple in Odisha that comes under UNESCO's World Heritage Site.
